====== Translating ======

The main language of this wiki is French, but all the pages can be translated into English, Spanish and Occitan.

===== Visit available translations =====

When hovering the current language name in the sidebar (see [[en:wiki:naviguer|navigating]]), we can see the different languages the page is available in.

{{/:wiki:pasted:20260130-152302.png?200}}

When a language is displayed in red, it means the page has not yet been translated. If it is green, then a translated version is available. In the picture, we can see the page is available in French and English.

By clicking another translation, the page is shown in this language if the translation exists.

When visiting a page in another language than French, we can notice that the page's link begins with the language code (example: ''en:wiki:traduire'').

When a page is modified in a language, its translations show the following message above the translation list:

{{wiki:pasted:20260130-155458.png}}

It allows the translators to know the page needs an update, and the users to know it can be incomplete or erroneous (according to the changes made to the original).

===== Translate a page =====

To add a translation to a page, click on the wanted language (which is displayed in red as the translation doesn't exist yet). The page then shows "This page doesn't exist yet" (or "Cette page n'existe pas encore" in French). We can then create the page like any other page (see [[en:wiki:contribuer|contributing]]).

Creating a translation is slightly different from editing a random page, as the editor is pre-filled with the original version. It allows translating the page paragraph by paragraph, with the original as model.

A line explaining this is present in the beginning, it should be removed before saving the page.

===== Tips and recommendations =====

==== Images ====

When translating pages, it can be convenient to reuse images from the original page. To achieve this, click on the image on the original page, copy its link (displayed on top right of the frame around the page content), then insert an image using this link in the edited page.

==== Links ====

If an original page has links to other pages, it is best for its translated version to point to translated versions of those pages. To do that, edit the links to add the language code (en, es or oc) before the original link. Example: ''wiki:naviguer'' becomes ''en:wiki:naviguer'' in English. These pages might not exist, but it allows to identify the missing translations. It is also good to customize the link text so that it shows the translated name instead of the original, if they are different.
